Computer Space 2012 programme focus Print

A lot of seminars, exhibitions and workshops will take place in the frame of the 24th edition of Computer Space festival programme.

Among the programme focus will be the specialized seminar for computer animation. Several world-famous 3D artists will present some of their work.

In relation to the computer animation seminar there will be a seminar on the topic of "Character Design", which will be presented by Nikola Dechev and Martin Punchev.

Nikola Dechev is a freelance 3D artist and graphic designer with a lot of prizes and recognition in the area of computer graphics, works actively in the advertising area. He will tell us what is neccessary for the creation of a project, what is the border between the personal vision and the client's requirements and what techniques are used in the professional work. Also, there will be plenty of video and graphic content.

Martin Punchev is a freelance 3D artist, specialized in the area of character design. He worked as a technical art director for the bulgarian game-dev studio "Masthead Studios" on the MMORPG "Earthrise". Martin will talk about the character design pipeline - from thumbnails, throught concepts to the final 3D model.

Very interesting will be the presentation on the topic of "3D Mapping" technology.
Marin Petkov from MP Studio will present the projects of the studio and will talk about the important usage of the technology for the advertising industry. The presentation will be followed by a mapping demonstration.

In this edition of the festival, as usual, some of the best international projects from the competition part will be presented to the bulgarian audience.

A very important part of this year's programme will be the seminar, dedicated to computer graphics. It will include many traditional and contemporary topics like font design, logo design in modern advertisement, design of book covers and creation of decorated paper. There will be several young bulgarian artists (well-known in the street art culture and the advertising business), who will take part in the seminars and workshops.

Ivailo Nedkov - also known as Arno - is a graphic designer and illustrator, part of "Four Plus" studio and the street art project "Trash Lovers". He will talk about the combination of typography and illustration in a consistent image and will share some examples from his own experience. The workshop in relation to the lecture will be dedicated to the letters as graphic elements and elements of visual communication.

Kosio Kokalanov - also known as Spit - is a young specialist in the area of graphic design, with interest in calligraphy and it's usage in modern graphic design. He works for a leading advertising agency and is part of the street art project "Trash Lovers".

Nikolai Petrov - also known as Flak. He is a part of "140ideas", young artists with interests in traditional graphic techniques and calligraphy. He will present a workshop on the topic "Paper marbling - art or magic". Paper marbling (or ebru) is one of the most ancient arts and is used today for decoration of letters and books. The magic lies in the process of creation, as well as in the process of transfering the creation to the paper.

Svetoslav Simov is a font designer and owner of one of the most popular digital type foundries - FontFabric. It is an association for creating fonts (free or payed) for the needs of graphics design and advertising. His lecture will be on the topic of "Cyrillization of fonts" i.e. adding the cyrillic alphabet to an already existing latin fonts. He will talk about russian and bulgarian cyrillic fonts, pros and cons of these fonts, as well as the importance of geometry in font creation.

As usual, the photography seminar will be an important part of this year’s programme. It will consist of several events.

One of them will be dedicated to the usage of analog and digital filters, as well as their influence over the perception of an image.

Nikolay Treyman – owner of “Treyman Brothers” photo studio will talk about the analog filters.

Daniel Yordanov will talk about the modern side of photography – the usage of digital filters and Adobe Photoshop plugins (Tiffen Dfx, Nik Software, Topaz Labs) in the process of image editing.

Kevork Vanlyan from “Treyman Brothers” photo studio will conduct a 2-day photography workshop, in which every visitor will have the chance to take a photo and develop it over a special silver photography paper. This way each participant will get a step closer to the magic of the portrait photography from the XX century.

Another specialized seminar will be dedicated to the three aspects of media literacy – intelligent searching in the Internet, criteria for evaluation of information and techniques for manipulation of information.

Last but not least, every visitor will have the opportunity to view the exhibition of artworks from Maya Bocheva (a.k.a. Wicky), which will consist of illustrations from her personal project – “This and that”, as well as some other illustrations for world-famous titles and tells.
